This Month (October), AGW have helped out the Black Country Constructing Excellence club with one of their yearly help the Community projects.

Wayne Barratt of W.Barratt contractors Ltd has organized the necessary trades to help out with this project in West Bromwich where we are helping to put together a donated building at the rear of Chapter House, who provide accommodation for vulnerable young adults aged 18plus.
It is hoped that this building will be used to get the local community together and teach people how to use computers and give people somewhere to go that might need space for recreation. Or to gain an advantage if they were looking for employment.

AGW Electrical provided the labour and time of an electrician and together with Camden Electrical Wholesalers who provided the Electrical kit we completed the electrical part of this fantastic project.

AGW Electrical completes £25'000 electrical project at Gloucester

AGW Electrical (Services) Ltd have just completed this project working for a main contractor whom AGW have now worked for a few times and have formed a very good partnership with.
This project is Woodlodge at Tetbury in Gloucestershire which included a complete renovation of the offices and mezzanine.
Our work included new lighting throughout, as well as power and data outlets in the floors and walls and a new fire and intruder alarm system.
This project was worth just over £25'000 electrically to us.

As you can see in the highlighted square box, there are three units in a row, these enclosures are a new device used by AGW Electrical to help save energy when using standard industrial high bay lighting like Sodium/Metal Halide or Fluorescent lighting.
These devices allow for the high starting current that discharge lighting produces and then switch over to a lower running current which still runs the lights at full brightness but uses 30-35% less electricity.

Obviously when a large industrial unit can have over a hundred light fittings the savings could be massive!

Recently (November '10) we have been asked to start re-fitting Greggs stores along with the Subway's, and this one is our first.

It is based in Oxford and is one of two that are being done in Oxford this month with the second one starting just as this first one come's to a close.

I managed to take a few photo's whilst helping one of our engineers on site for the day and then again whilst dropping the Test instruments to them last week.

West Midlands Police Project

Many thanks go out to West midlands Police for giving us this latest Project to look at, we are now starting work at Bloxwich Police station in Walsall for the next few weeks.

They are having some alteration work to Floors one and two for which we are obviously doing the Electric's, stripping out and moving floor boxes around etc working alongside the builder.

Then replacing light fittings and switches and sockets to suit the new layout.

We were delighted to have been chosen by a respected shopfitter for our latest venture.

The new Subway store opening up in the foodhall at the Merry Hill centre in Brierley Hill near Dudley.

Work is underway, hoarding's are up and I visited today just to take a couple of snaps, and we are getting ready to proceed with the next phase and second fix it.

I will add more snaps as we progress.

We have recently moved into retail refurbishments although the same as any electrical job this prestigious market is one which we shall be doing more of in coming months.

Hadley Industries 2008 (our biggest job so far)

Hadley Industries down in Smethwick are one of our more regular clients, we were charged with the task of re-wiring completely their new units across the road that they had purchased.

This was worth £173'000.00 to AGW.

This was a bare bone's lot of three units that needed converting for them to use for their day to day machining so lighting, power, distribution boards etc. Also if you are interested in saving energy we installed units which can work with Sodium and fluorescent lighting which allows for the high start up current and then switches over to save 30% of the energy whilst still running the lights at optimum levels.

We also had to install new transformers to the outside of the building and route communications and security across the road to their head office.

If you are interested in saving business energy, and would like a free energy survey to see if we could help by using modern light fittings and add on's please do get in touch, we do not charge for this service, obviously all we do ask is that you allow us to put a price in to do the work, its still up to you whether you go ahead with it or not.

If you look up the Carbon Trust, they may help you get an interest free loan, all SME's are usually accepted and some large companies under certain criteria.

This enables you to pay for the work and materials, and with the energy you could save that would pay for the work, we usually try to get full payback within 12-24 months.

Bull Ring job Feb'10

I was very pleased when a main contractor, a new and very valued client gave us the opportunity to quote for and win work at the Bull Ring shopping Centre, a new place of work for AGW Electrical (Services) Ltd and one that we hope to make a good impression upon to secure future work with.

Our task to restore an empty retail unit ready for a new tennant, adding Power outlets, performing tests and isolating various former supplies.

JitterBugs PartyWorld Update.

A quick update on the Jitterbugs Partyworld Job.

Light's have gone up and cabling is underway for power etc.

Childrens play items have been delivered!

A photo of the Light fittings we've used. Environmentally friendly.

They are Industrial High/Low bay style lights, usually consisting of or 400Watt sodium or Metal Halide lamp, But these new ones are 4 x 49Watt so less than 200Watt's, half the amount of energy. Yet by using High frequency gear and Triphosphor lamps the output is kept very high!

I will continue to Update this Blog as we go along.

If you wish to discuss Energy Saving there are lots of idea's we have that could save you money, and even be paid for with an Interest free loan from the Carbon Trust!

The energy you save will be able to more than likely pay the loan back.

January 2010, Jitterbugs Job underway

Work started almost immediately after the Christmas break in January 2010, on Children's Play and Party world called Jitterbugs Party world.

3 Industrial sized units will be converted into one big open play with Children's Entertainment area with Toilets, Kitchen, bar area etc.

Consisting of New Technology Energy Saving Industrial type lighting. Fittings will be Fluorescent rather than Sodium or metal halide. Keeping running costs minimal.

Professional Lighting design software was used to make sure the spread of light produced no dark spots and illumination was kept above industry guidelines.
